Anti-doping laboratories for the 2010 Winter Olympics

The project comprises the design of the doping control laboratories for the 2010 Olympic Games, a project initiated by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) in collaboration with the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS). These facilities were designed to lodge some forty experts and new state-of-the-art equipment required to meet highly demanding time constraints during competitions; they were to facilitate more than 2500 urine and blood samples to be processed during the Olympic Games and were to be managed by the INRS Montreal team.

The Institut de Montréal laboratories were until this time the only in Canada active in doping control and were certified by the world agency (Agence mondiale antidopage). The laboratories in Vancouver, which will be involved in the development of new doping control technology, are leading edge facilities.

The Olympic Oval, the building in which the installations are located, will aim for LEED certification. The laboratories themselves will be realised incorporating sustainable development principles.
